Irish musicians Liam Ó Maonlaí (Hothouse Flowers) and Paddy Keenan (Bothy Band) embark on a musical journey to the heart of Africa, Mali.

The Black Irish of Montserrat
A Radharc report from 1976 about the Black Irish of Montserrat. Irish people exiled by Cromwell and African slaves arrived on Montserrat at about the same time.

The Other Emerald Isle
Two short clips from the 1986 documentary The Other Emerald Isle, about the 'black Irish' of Montserrat in the Caribbean. It was presented by Michael D. Higgins, at that time a lecturer in University College, Galway, later the President of Ireland. The first clip is part of the introduction, the second is a song from blind Moses Fenton in his rum shop. The film tells the story of Ireland's involvement in slavery, a St. Patrick's Day revolt when slaves and their Irish overseers rose against their English masters, the culture and music of the island.

5 Traditional African Dances
Communities in Africa use traditional dances to teach, to socialize, to celebrate festivals and when mourning at funerals. Other dances are exclusively used for ceremonial purposes, for spiritual and religious practices.

Mento Music - the history of Jamaican mento music by Michael Garnice, with articles and media files.

Musical Passage - this website offers an interpretation of the music recorded in Hans Sloane's "Voyage to the Islands of Madera, Barbados, Nieves, S. Christophers and Jamaica" written in 1707. On a single page within this book is the notation of music performed at a gathering of black musicians in Jamaica. A collaborative project by Laurent Dubois, David Garner, and Mary Caton Lingold.

Standing Stones - home page of musicians the Standing Stones (Michael Robinson and Vicki Parrish), the website has a wealth of information on traditional Celtic (Irish and Scottish) music.

Cockpit Country Warriors - A Facebook group that seeks to provide a forum to discuss issues that pertain to the imminent mining plans by Noranda, to mine bauxite in Cockpit Country. The long-term goal is to provide information and programs that will foster indigenous sustainability in the communities.
