Documentary 1:
Interviews with academics Duration 51:22 minutes In this first documentary academics discuss the shared cultural history of African and Irish people in the Caribbean from the seventeenth century. The following academics were interviewed for this project: Ellen Campbell-Grizzle, Laurent Dubois, Sir Howard Fergus KBE, Eamonn Galldubh, Nicole Jacoberger, Mary Caton Lingold and Meleisa Ono-George. Topics covered include: Irish music in the seventeenth century; African music in the seventeenth century; how the Irish came to be in the Caribbean; similarities and differences in the lives of Irish indentured servants and African slaves; Monsterrat - Emerald Isle in the Caribbean; music played by slaves on the plantations; the Jamaican Maroons and cultural preservation; how the plantation experience has shaped modern music. |

Interviews with people from Slough Duration 51:18 minutes In this second documentary people who came from the Caribbean and Ireland to Slough discuss their shared experiences. Topics covered include: coming to England in the 1950s and 1960s; finding work; musical traditions; sports; community and social life; Afro-Irish heritage; Montserrat. |
